About the Company

Known today as TRH Health Plans, Tennessee Rural Health was founded in 1947 as a not-for-profit organization for the purpose of providing health care protection to farmers and rural Tennesseans. Today, TRH makes health care coverage available to Tennesseans from all walks of life, especially those who need individual or family health plans at affordable rates.

Mission Statement
To develop, foster and promote programs for the general improvement of health care for rural Tennesseans.

TRH has the largest rural health program in the nation with more than 186,000 members taking advantage of its quality health care plans. TRH, which has chosen BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee as its claims administrator, makes available a variety of health care coverages. They include comprehensive health coverage, Medicare supplements, dental coverage, short term coverage, Health Savings Account-qualified high deductible health plans, and children's coverage. And a great TRH advantage is that once covered, TRH members can take that coverage with them, even if they move or change jobs.

As a membership-based organization, TRH strives daily to recognize and meet the needs of its members. TRH has representatives in more than 155 locations across Tennessee's 95 counties - the only organization which provides this service for its members. While other companies have come and gone, TRH and its representatives have remained, providing fellow Tennesseans with efficient, high quality and compassionate service. Having knowledgeable people with caring attitudes in the right place makes TRH different from other companies.

TRH promotes programs that improve the health and safety of the rural people in Tennessee through educational workshops to educate volunteer leaders and health care providers on rural health care needs, safety and nutrition. TRH also distributes a variety of health and wellness books and brochures for its members.

Some of the projects TRH sponsors and supports include:

  • Future Farmers of America
  • Young Farmers & Ranchers Safety Project
  • Farm Bureau Women's Cookbook
  • Agriculture In The Classroom
  • Scholarships for 4-H health projects
  • Free blood pressure checks and other wellness programs at various meetings
  • Speakers for the Tennessee Farm Bureau Women's Conference and Young Farmers & Ranchers Conference
  • Financial support to the United Way, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, and the Arthritis Foundation
